October, 2018 will see the opening of the third Studio Furniture 2018, once again jointly produced by Australian Wood Review and Bungendore Wood Works Gallery, and now arguably the richest woodworking awards in Australia.

‘The aim has always been to create a landmark exhibiton of works and to recognise and promote fine woodworking’, said AWR editor Linda Nathan. ‘More than ever the desire with Studio Furniture 2018 is to encourage the new generation of woodworkers to step forward.’

‘Without those who make furniture there would be no galleries, no woodworking magazines, no schools of woodworking, no woodworking machinery sales, no fine woodworking tools, no festivals of woodworking…,’ said BWWG founder and artistic director David Mac Laren.

‘Studio Furniture 2018 will be the third of such Australia wide exhibitions created in partnership with Australian Wood Review magazine,’ said David Mac Laren. ‘The first occurred in 2008, and the second in 2010. Now, eight years later, SF18 sets out an exhibition to mark a turning point, a generational change to encourage a younger generation to enter this exhibition and hopefully find a future relationship with BWWG and thereby sustain the gallery for a further generation.’

In support of this, David Mac Laren has boosted the cash awards on offer to $15,000 with the first prize being $10,000. Together with a Hammer N4400 bandsaw (value $3,166) to be presented by Felder Group Australia, this constitutes an $18,000+ awards offering.

Studio Furniture 2018 will also celebrate BWWG’s 35th anniversary, and also the year of AWR’s 100th issue. The exhibition will run at Bungendore Woodworks Gallery, NSW from October 20, 2018 until January 31, 2019. The opening will take place amidst the excitement of Australia’s newest woodworking festival Wood Dust Australia on October 20, with floor talks to take place on the following day at the gallery.
