Skunk Tool Works in the USA make the No.444am and a range of smaller brass gauges. This one is beautifully made from thick and hard milled aluminium that is anodised black. The two-part body screws together from 8.6mm and 4.8mm thick matched parts.

The highlight of this tool is the fact that there are stainless steel adjustable wings on either side of the body that can be set to various angles. The markings show both the pitch and the degree angle of seven dovetail angles from 4:1 to 10:1. The angle markings are etched into the face and set with a small stainless steel pointer and lock securely with a small knurled knob.

You can do all your marking out across a board, except for small closely marked tails you can’t get good purchase less than 20mm or so from the end of a board. This is because the gauge is quite wide in order to accommodate the patented adjusting mechanism.

The gauge is quick and accurate to use. It is quite revolutionary as a single tool that can give you multiple choices for your preferred dovetail angles.
