Kevin Brown, Walnut Display Cabinet (CHESTS, CABINETS, SHELVING 2021)

Custom made from American black walnut and finished in Tru oil to give a nice warm glow to the timber. This display cabinet with its modern bespoke design and heavy use of curves and angles was to create an eye-catching design. The legs are free-floating from the carcass at an angle of 15 degrees to create this unique design. The tapered curved legs that flare out at the bottom helps to give the cabinet better balance and stability. The use of white oak as an accent timber is used to create another design element in the design with the feet caps and joints between the carcass and legs. This cabinet has been constructed using hand-cut piston fit, houndstooth dovetail draws, and mortise and tenon joints in the frames. All the panels are book-matched solid walnut. A mirror at the back of the cabinet is to reflect light forward to better showcase the items the client collects. The draws in the bottom are to hold the paperwork and certificates of the collectibles so he would be able to keep everything in one place.
