Jeff Miller, Toccata Dining Chair (WORLD 2021)

Country
United States

The Toccata Chair was the result of a quick sketch in wood of a chair leg made up of thin slats. I had no idea how to turn this idea into a chair at the time, but 20 years later, it came to me. The trigger was a comb-back Windsor chair. But structurally and visually, this chair went off in its own direction, as is typical with my designs. The Toccata Chair is also the culmination of decades of work on chair comfort, structure, and appearance.. It is part of a family of chairs, which include a reading chair and a rocker, all of which use the thin slats as the back structure.
