Liam Starcevich, The Velara Hall Table (STUDENT 2021)

This piece served as an exercise in applying certain principles of automotive design to the medium of fine furniture. It includes a number of curved elements to afford it a certain fluidity of surface whilst exhibiting disciplined proportions and an emphasis on horizontality. The walnut torsion box body contrasts with the serendipitously figured maple rails which are offset by the brass drawer pull and surround detail. This was a hugely challenging but equally rewarding piece to build; a veritable baptism of fire.
