“The Hearth Dining Table” was inspired by a client who lives in a townhouse in Richmond. During the week only two people dine at the table while on weekends they love to host friends and family. The space was limited as a normal sized dining table would impede on an existing walk way which would be intrusive during the week. The split top design was a must for the space, the table top runs on dovetail slides with a magnetised locking system for the join. Hand made brass hardware was used for the location and locking pins to add elegance to the overall piece. The matching angle on the table and legs give the illusion of a floating top as I tried to “remove” some of the heaviness of a 60mm iron bark top. The extension leaf hides under the table top ready for use when needed. I wanted this piece to be a place where family and friends come together. The idea of a hearth where you’d gather for warm is something that resonates with me and so, black legs represent the charcoal, with the deep reds and yellow the flames of a hearth at the centre of a family home.
