Mike Fleming, Tasmanian Blackwood Library and Cabinets (CHESTS, CABINETS, SHELVING 2021)

A commissioned library in a private residence in the Adelaide hills, constructed and installed by Mike Fleming Joinery using solid Tasmanian Blackwood and book-matched Tasmanian Blackwood plywood veneer. The library was designed by Mike to fit from wall to wall in an existing un-utilised room in the house. The entire library wall was built in the workshop in large sections then transported to site for install. The Library wall features a "secret door" which opens seamlessly into the existing lounge room. The door was already part of the main building but was incorporated into the build by joining a section of the library shelving to the existing door so that from the lounge room it looks as if it is a normal household door. Using RHP secret door hinges, the entire library self unit opens with a slight pull of the library shelf but when closed is completely unnoticed. RHP products was also used for the sliding ladder hardware, with the custom ladder made by Mike witch slides effortlessly all the way along the library wall. Finished using hardwax oil, the project was completed with custom mouldings to suit the exiting early century farm style of the house. 2 Wall hung cabinets opposite the library were also incorporated into the project to match the library with solid Blackwood drawers and glazed display doors.
