I present a piece that marks an important milestone in my creative journey – my first standing mirror. Entirely handcrafted from timber, this work was born from a desire to transform a functional object into a sculptural presence. The form rises from the ground like a living thing: slender ribbons of wood unfurl, twist and loop upward, echoing the movement of wind, water and growth in nature. The mirror is framed within this flowing structure, yet it is not only a frame – it becomes part of the gesture itself. Each curve was shaped patiently by hand, layer by layer, following the natural lines of the grain. No two angles are the same; as you walk around it, the form changes, inviting the viewer to see both themselves and the piece from different perspectives. This is my first standing mirror, and it is also a reflection of my deep respect for wood as a material – its warmth, unpredictability and living character. I wanted to let the wood speak, to allow movement to remain visible in the stillness of the finished piece. In this work, function and sculpture meet. It is a mirror, but also a moment of growth, captured in form. The mirror is sculpted from solid ash, resting on a base of deep, warm walnut. Rising to a height of 2300 mm, the piece holds a mirror measuring 1400 mm by 680 mm, combining strength and elegance in natural timber.
