For my HSC major work project I designed and constructed a Standing Jewellery Cabinet featuring a 54 piece tambour sliding door. Inspired by my love of Australian flora and fauna, I incorporated a 3mm kookaburra marquetry design seamlessly embedded into the tambour door. The interior consists of two shelves and two flocked, dovetailed drawers with timber runners, designed to provide both elegance and durability. The drawers include a range of dividers for organised storage, as well as two removable top compartments that reveal additional hidden sections for jewellery. The project is primarily crafted from Tasmanian Oak and American Black Walnut, while the marquetry incorporates a refined selection of timbers, including Jarrah, Wenge, Birdseye Maple, Rock Maple, Zebrano, and American Walnut. These contrasting tones and textures create a piece that is not only visually striking but also highly functional, serving as both a statement artwork and a practical storage solution for jewellery and accessories.
