Brief: : Use a non commercial timber : Knock down joinery featuring interlocking joints : Contrasting timbers: : Wine rack in the bottom shelf : Capable of storing heavy books and not sagging : Provision for a whiskey cabinet to be added later My thoughts were to use Silver birch and Blackwood. The timbers enjoy rich tonal qualities and particularly as I intended to turn the “pegs” to secure the shelves to the shaped sides. The stand needed to be easily assembled and dis-assembled by clients. The interlocking mortise and tenon provided a fitting solution and easily compensated for any dimensional changes that may occur due to changing moisture. The bottom shelf features Blackwood accents to delineate between wine bottles and the dimensions and proportions of the stand can withstand considerable weight. The design allows for a whiskey cabinet to be included in the centre of the Stand. The stand has been heavily finished with Scandinavian Teak Oil.
