This project is a hybrid between a sewing cabinet and a makeup vanity table. It is constructed of a mix of Tasmanian Oak and Spotted Gum timber. Select pieces of the hardware used in this project was salvaged from a pre-existing sewing cabinet, specifically the sewing machine lift mechanism and the internal mirror. The lift mechanism is the key feature of this project as it allows for a sewing machine to be lowered and raised. This makes the project highly functional as it can be used as two different furniture types, hence it being a hybrid. It is to be paired with a large wall mirror to provide the makeup vanity function. The traditional fold out table top section of sewing cabinets was swapped for a lift-out lid to allow the cabinet to be more efficient and used in smaller spaces. This lid was rebated to slot into the hole in the table top when the lift has been lowered so that the table surface can be used for other purposes. All decorative etching was self-designed on a digital program before carefully etched onto the timber using a laser cutter machine.
