Sourcing suitable wood for this project was a bit of a challenge as I needed a block around 150X250X500mm.I eventually selected a length of American Bass 30 mm thick which required careful planing before gluing and clamping 4 X500 mm lengths together with a good quality PVA glue. A good deal of research on the internet produced number of photos of Samurai and their armour which I was able to translate into a plasticine model that eventually looked right from all angles. After transferring the approximate outline of the figure onto the block of wood some of the surplus could be removed with a bandsaw and after that it was all hand chisels and fingers crossed during the tricky bits.To keep the feeling of movement the figure was chisel finished and not sanded and sealed with 4 coats of hard canuba wax
