Bim Morton, Salvaged Gold (TABLES, CHAIRS, DESKS 2021 )

This beautiful Tallow wood slab has been salvaged from the rainforests of Dorrigo. The tree was felled in the late 80’s. The tree was double a leader and the loggers only took the top trunks, but the first section of trunk was deemed to mis-shaped to bother with. In 2016 the log was salvaged by the owners of the property on Johnsens rd. Dorrigo. It was bandsaw milled in Dorrigo and then kiln dried at Tree-O furniture Gallery in Raleigh. I then created this table from one of the slabs. Black Butt was used to create organic legs and stretchers under the table. I felt the wild shape of the slab needed to be treated in this organic manner, the legs representing the double leader tree, and the twisted stretchers the massive root system this tree would have needed to sustain it. An heirloom piece. 2400mm x 1150mm x 750mm
