Daniel Close, Saltwood (TABLES, CHAIRS, DESKS 2021 )

In creating this 8-seat dining table I wanted to show case the use of reclaimed materials to build something quite unique without compromising on functionality. The table is finished in whittle waxes hard wax oil and constructed using a variety of reclaimed Vic ash and Jarrah. Challenging the typical linear surface of dining tables founded the inspiration to create the dramatic curved top and the rest simply followed. The cambered laminated rails connect using a keyed mortice join. The centre rail meets perpendicular to the end rail allowing the aesthetic continuation of its curved form. This and the subtle 3 degree angled legs added an element of complexity when applying the blind mortice joints from rails to legs.
