Kaspian Kan, Rudi table (TABLES, CHAIRS, DESKS 2021 )

Inspired by the drumming community’s appreciation for the beauty of well-made drums, this was an exploration of Australian timber, experimental joinery, and creating a niche multifunctional piece - a side table that keeps a snare drum visible, accessible and playable. The central structure - a triangular set of dual-tapered mortise and tenon joints - supports the drum without touching the snare wires, while the top - glass supported by tapered spokes that meet in a three-piece bridle joint - protects the drum and is easily removed to access it. With the table top assembly removed, the legs stop short of the drum rim to allow it to be played in situ with natural, unhindered movement. Materials: Blackwood, blackheart sassafras, finished with Osmo oil. Displayed with snare drum by Metro Drum Co.
