For my 2023 HSC Major Project, I chose to construct a Room Divider Furniture Piece with a blend of classic and contemporary design elements. The contrasting deep-toned Plantation Mahogany and wavy, light-toned Rock Maple evoke a sense of balance and harmony. This is further enhanced by the inclusion of bronze-tinted shelves that provide space for displaying trophies, memorabilia and photo frames and alleviate the robustness of the grand Divider. Most notable are the curved edges that repeat appearing to extend from the wall and create a soft and sleek design. The seamless hand-carved pole serves as the central support and focal point of the divider. The Brass brass-handled drawers allow the user to hide any belongings with further space beyond the unique Curved 5-Panel Door. I experiment with different types of processes, mainly Lathing, Curve Bending and the uniquely designed Five Panel Doors Round and Round Over-Edge Corbels to further enhance the fluidity and unity of the design. In addition, to joinery techniques like Dovetail, Domino, Mitre and Stopped Housing joints. I have applied Rubio Monocot, an innovative finish in the industry that enhances and gives warmth to the grain in a single coat.
