This 1400 x 750mm River Oak table (Casuarina cunninghamiana) was from a tree I rescued from the chipper behind my studio in Byron Bay Arts and Industry Estate back in 2018. I air dried it for three inside my shed at home on the advice of a sawmiller to keep it out of the weather. Glad I did but even though it was well racked it twisted and warped and I lost over half of it. Upon re-racking I had enough boards for a dinner table and a kitchen table. After stacking on top of my workshop office mezzanine for another two years, I finally dressed it up and made this kitchen table, which I must say came out quite well. It is beautiful timber and sits proudly in our kitchen. The design is entirely my own where I intentionally followed the curves in the rails through to the legs.
