This oak dining table ensemble was designed and crafted as part of a full kitchen fit-out for a refurbished Georgian home in Schull, West Cork. The client’s brief called for a robust yet elegant dining solution to comfortably seat 14 people, suitable for a holiday rental setting. Measuring 2.56m x 2.1m, the table demanded careful engineering. A concealed steel framework was incorporated beneath the top, bolted and slotted to allow natural timber movement while preventing distortion. This was essential in its setting, a glass-walled extension with underfloor heating and sliding doors that create constant shifts in humidity and temperature. The legs were made from one-inch oak, laminated from a single board for perfect colour and grain match. Stack lamination was used to create the bell shape, Custom jigs were used to cut the demanding 3-inch mitres. The legs were positioned to provide diners with unhindered access. The ensemble also includes an L-shaped banquette bench and stools. The finish is a subtle white wash under a water-based lacquer, chosen to preserve the natural character of the oak.
