I remember my mother on cold winter evenings, with a crochet hook or knitting needles in hand, her fingers always busy with colorful yarn and handcrafts. How much she left behind for us – her children and grandchildren – with great care and precision: embroidered, knitted, and crocheted treasures. This piece is inspired by her beautiful work – by memories, longing, and the beauty created by her hands. Modern 3D scanners couldn’t capture the intricate detail of her crocheted doilies, so I had to search for a similar project online. I found and purchased a 3D doily design on the internet. I then had to modify the 3D model in order to produce a wooden version. I chose oak wood. The frame is my own design, based on patterns from the doilies she had crocheted. OAK DOILY FOR MOTHER. This entire piece – both the frame and the doily – is made from oak. Both sides are milled, just like a real doily, with the threads meeting naturally. Dimensions: 400mm x 400mm. In some places, the thread thickness is only 0.4 x 0.4 mm.
