The Narrabeen coffee table is handmade using century old reclaimed Australian hardwood timber that was rescued from Narrabeen in Sydney's northern beaches. Historical features (nails, bolt holes and knots) are retained to emphasise the timbers past and enhance its aesthetic appeal. At the time of rescue, there were approximately 24 lengths of 1800mm planks that were extremely weathered. I designed a coffee table (a limited run of 4) that had minimal waste and heroed the timber. The table has a simple and clean design. It is handmade with solid timber and constructed using interior joins. The table is joined by a waterfall edge, giving the appearance that the grain is continuous from one end to the other. The combination of historical features, single joined lengths of timber and weathered and aged grain makes this table stand out. It's extremely satisfying knowing that this old reclaimed Australian hardwood can go on for many decades to come.
