As a passionate chess enthusiast, I have carefully studied the requirements of a tournament chess set, ensuring that all dimensions comply with USCF regulations. The king stands 114 mm (4.5 inches), the largest permitted tournament size, and the set includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The entire chess set is made from a single plank of maple and a single plank of walnut. I use only traditional woodturning tools and techniques to craft these chess pieces. This approach allows me to shape graceful curves and refine even the finest details with precision. The knight’s head is entirely carved by hand. To enhance stability and balance, I developed a dual-weighted system with custom brass inserts. This ensures the pieces remain stable during play and provides a refined, high-quality feel in the hand. The storage system includes two inlays—one for white, one for black—where each piece rests securely in its custom-shaped recess. The inlays fit neatly into a bespoke wooden box, designed for both protection and elegance. The companion chessboard, with 60 × 60 mm squares, perfectly matches the pieces and meets USCF standards. Built from robust veneer layers, it combines warp-free stability with the appearance of solid wood. A beveled underside frame creates an elegant floating effect and makes the board easy to lift. "Masterpieces" are the result of years of design refinement and pure craftsmanship—created to be admired, played, and treasured for generations.
