This piece is nut and bolt made entirely of timber. The nut is carved from a single large salvaged victorian blackwood log that has been carefully dried. The bolt is laminated and carved from lemon scented gum boards that I also milled from a locally salvaged log and carefully dried. The bolt has a thread diameter of 300mm and a thread length of 600mm. Much care was taken with the tolerances and finish so the nut can easily be screwed on and off the nut. Both the nut and bolt will fit a 450mm spanner or socket (not included). Much of the carving was done on a robot wood carving system which I designed, built and programmed. The video I have linked shows the bolt thread being tested on an additional pine nut that I made as a test piece.
