I have always been interested in bendy plywood and the possibilities of this material that allows you to create sculptural and complex curves. This is the genesis of my design. The lounge chair was made by wrapping 4mm ply around formwork, resulting in an intriguing hollow form and interest is created with this play of positive and negative spaces. From the side view of the chair, I imagined the 3-D form being extruded from the 2-D shape. The curved, flowing form of my design is unapologetically bold and fun, and challenges the user to experience the characteristics of this statement piece. Not only is the form organic, but once you sit in the chair, it moves and flexes underneath you, so it is a truly organic experience.
