This table was made in honor of my father, and was designed with the goal of creating a space for gathering and memory-making for years to come. Inspired around two stunning old-growth slabs of teak that belonged to my dad (who was a teak importer), I wanted to give a subtle and inviting curved profile that welcomed guests and family as soon as they sat down. The base was made as a testament to the legacy that I continue to carry on as an artist and craftsman. Made of European Beech, the trestle style base provides both a strong, grounding presence, as well as light airiness offered through the varying thicknesses and negative space. The trestles are constructed as converging angles tilted towards the center of the table, angled tenons that splay the columns outwards, and hand-cut angled tapered bridle joints that connect the columns to the tops of the trestles. Finished with a durable hard wax oil for the top, and hand-rubbed shellac/wax finish for the base, the top is attached to the base with custom brass table fasteners.
