My final piece for my BA Furniture Design and Make degree, a geometric-twisting set of drawers intended as a bedside table. Measuring 600 x 350 x 350 I exploited the stability of veneer over a 3D form where solid wood would have movement issues and grain direction limitations. It is a functional storage piece which is also visually intriguing while giving the sense of movement. The top pattern translates the 3D form into 2D. Made using oak veneer on the oustide and zebrano veneer for the drawers with maple hardwood drawer runners. The helix form symbolises that my creativity and passion for woodworking has been part of my DNA since day one and it has only taken me 38 years to realise it. Like a tree twisting out of the earth this symbolises my growth and the true beginning of my journey into furniture making.
