The towel rack is made from recycled Tasmanian blackwood. Usually a utilitarian object, I wanted to design something that had a more visual impact in the bathroom. Inspiration for the design came from the agreeable curves found in many grevillea flowers - specifically in this case grevillea pteridifolia. Each arm was constructed using a bent lamination technique, rounded by hand then the end of the arm was carved. The arms were subsequently joined together and mortised into the curved base. The horizontal bars are shop made blackwood dowels. The piece was finished with an oil/wax blend. It measures 1100mm (h) x 850mm (w) x 380mm (d)
