For my HSC Major Project, I built a contemporary entertainment unit designed to balance function, durability and craftsmanship. Tasmanian oak was utilised for its light tone and workability, and contrasted with jarrah highlights, to establish a modern yet timeless look. The design enabled me to learn new skills, including the construction of dovetail joints within the drawers as well as bent lamination and steam bending for the curved drawer fronts. These elements coincided with the inclusion of tambour doors creating a continuous flow of curves throughout the project. The finished cabinet achieved my design goals, with aesthetic curves, tight joinery and fine details that reflect both my learning and craftsmanship.
