My work is predominantly with recycled or reclaimed wood. This one is made with a couple of small Teak boards that were passed on to me by a retiring woodworker with a lifetimes stash of odds and ends of quality demolition timber. I didn’t have quite enough to make the small trays too, so I used a bit of Iroko that I picked up from a boat project. I was commissioned to make three stacking jewellery trays with one row of small compartments in each tray. The design evolved to include two slotted ring cushion trays and to make the compartment trays freestanding so that they can be moved and positioned as desired. The joinery is splined mitres, the finish is Danish Oil and the trays are all lined with a beautiful purple silk velvet. Each of the stacking trays has a mitred bead around the bottom to locate and hold in the stacked position.
