Credenza 2 Red Pine, Blackwood, Ramin. After many years working for set builders, architectural millwork and joinery workshops, and out of shared spaces here and overseas, I set up my first workshop in grandma's garage in Melbourne in 2017. This credenza is the final commission I made in that shop, completing it in April this year. I had been lucky enough to accumulate a great variety of salvaged, excess and unusual stock over recent years and as readers will appreciate - many kernels of ideas to use them. This credenza represents my best efforts to incorporate a range of these materials in an heirloom piece. As such I feel the best description of the piece is the story of its materials: Tambour and centre door facing panels and top centrepiece : Red Pine (reclaimed lining boards from Edwardian house demolition), Tambour tenons: Brushbox (reclaimed from Victorian wharf demolition) Base and door cores: Ramin (ex pattern-makers excess stock), Moulding, Edging, Handles, Drawer boxes: Otway Blackwood (paddock clearance sale remainders and spalted offcuts), Hinge blocks, tambour stops and feet: Macassar Ebony (offcuts from Maton guitar factory and reclaimed piano keys) Shelving: Vic Ash (excess stock), Carcasse: Sen Ash veneer board (excess stock from 1980s) Shelf supports and door hinges: Brass rod (reclaimed carpet runner stays from Edwardian house demolition) Tambour tracks: Corrian engineered solid surface.
