Blackwood Office Cabinet Brief: : Personal organiser for office with two flap down fronts and dividers : Quite specific dimensions to meet exacting ergonomics. : Exotic Acacia melanoxylon (Blackwood) to be the feature timber. : Two deep drawers with modern hardware and smooth hardware action. : Blackwood carcass featuring contrasting drawers : Modern texture and engraving : Customise and personalise the of outstanding Tasmanian Blackwood. My thoughts were to focus on the beauty of the solid timber and to include some simple carved texture. I recently purchased a Multicam CNC machine and was very keen personalise the build with the new technology. I chose to select a few leaves from a Blackwood tree in our garden, complete a sketch, vectorise it in the Aspire software and router the engraving on the side panels. I chose to add symmetrical carving to the top flaps and lower drawers. The top flaps were supported with bronze hardware and concealed hinges. These were problematic to source but very effective when recessed into the carcass. The lower drawers are dovetailed Huon Pine boxes with an applied Blackwood engraved panel to match the flaps above. Soft close drawer runners added smooth functionality. The Blackwood Office Cabinet was sprayed with lacquer.
