Ned Collins, Bent form floor Lamp with Sandstone base (STUDENT 2021)

I still remember the first time I saw the Arco Lamp by brothers Pier Giacomo and Achille Castiglioni, it entranced me that a piece of lighting could inhabit space like that and command such presence. My lamp, in some ways, is a nod to that piece. I wanted to craft something that stood tall, and sturdy, that could project into, and become part of the space that it illuminated. Constructed using lamination bending techniques, I laminated the lamp is several stages, allowing me to internally route the cabling and maintain a simple silhouette. The timber is American Ash, the base is Sandstone mined in Bundanoon, and the Lamp shade is a simple Ceramic form sourced from a producer in Italy.
