This project consists of a custom bed head and matching side table, commissioned by a client—my mum’s retired yoga teacher. It was a rewarding opportunity to design and build a piece that was out of my comfort zone. I’m particularly pleased with how the brass handles turned out. They add visual interest to the piece especially when reflecting the light at different amounts, depending on where you are looking at the piece. The bed head features traditional mortise and tenon joinery, with floating solid wood panels that allow for seasonal movement while maintaining structural integrity. The side table is constructed with mitred corners, reinforced with domino joinery. Each drawer is fitted with hand-cut dovetails.
