The box was made as a present for my partners mother in Vietnam. It is made of she-oak with accent of blue gum. The lid is veneered MDF. The marquetry is made of various wood species with a background of harewood. The design is a branch of Apricot blossom which is considered a lucky charm during the lunar new year in the Southern parts of Vietnam. When these trees are small and grown in pots, they are used to hang small envelopes with a little bit of money inside to bring luck and prosperity to the person who will receive the envelope.
