A friend told me of a large tree branch that had fallen down nearby in a storm, so I jumped in the car with my trusty Gomboy silky saw to investigate. To my great delight, it was Alder! I hauled as much as I could manage home and made this spoon set from the straightest piece. Look at those medullary rays in the bowls! Heaven. As with all my green woodworking, I made these using traditional spoon carving methods and tools. That is, axe, sloyd knife and hook knife. I also used some small carving palm chisels for the detail. These have not been sanded, only knife-finished, and have been sealed with Hemp seed oil.
