Vale Raf Nathan, former Wood Review publisher and longtime contributor
From Robert Howard, Contributing Editor
I am sure you will be as shocked as I was to hear of the sudden death of Raf Nathan.
Many readers will be familiar with his numerous written contributions to the AWR, but you might not realise just how profoundly significant his life has been for woodworking in Australia.
In partnership with his wife, Linda, he not only created, and then helped steer the magazine through the many years that they owned it before Yaffa Media took it on in 2013, but also, prior to that, created and produced the very first Timber and Working with Wood Show in Melbourne in 1988.
It is with profound sadness that I write this. I have known - knew - Raf for over 30 years. He was a warm and gentle man with a lovely dry sense of humour, a fine woodworker, and successful in creating a very close marriage, friendship and working partnership with his wife Linda, our well loved editor.
As you can imagine, this is a sad and difficult time for his family, and they ask that you allow them the time and space to grieve and recover.
The photo taken by Linda Nathan shows Raf with his large scale Cabinetman.
