The brief was to design and produce a display cabinet for sporting trophies and medallions. Facility was also required for storage of basketballs and footballs.
Processes involved laminating of 150mm wide boards for the carcase and then using a Gifkins dovetail jig for the corner joint. The legs were bandsawn to shape and then spokeshaved and the edges radiused with a router. Turned wooden spacers located between the legs and cabinet create a feeling of lightness. The drawer fronts have been band sawn from a single piece of birds eye mountain ash with recesses cut for hand holds, creating a unique effect. Runners are full extension and the draws lined with felt. The ball rack is made from 12mm concrete reinforcing rod. The cabinet was finished with two coats of Polyurethane then rubbed back with steel wool and a coat of Danish oil applied.
