Timber Memory is a survey exhibition of woodwork by makers from the 1970s–80s selected from the Victorian State Craft Collection with the inclusion of some work by a few contemporary Victorian makers.
The makers represented are David Cumming, Pip Giovanelli, Clinton Greenwood, Sally Gunning, Bob Hammerly, Malcom Harris, Anthony Kleine, Helmut Lueckenhausen, Bryan Poynton, Anthony Pryor, Richard Raffan, David Ralph, Anthony Russo, Helen Walsh, Alan West, Jo Wilson, Vic Wood and Damien Wright.
Most of the pieces from the collection have held their currency as examples of work with a fine aesthetic in terms of contemporary appreciation of fine woodwork. The strength of this display brings to mind a hope that more exhibitions of contemporary works in wood may soon feature.
Timber Memory is on display until Feb 27 at Craft Victoria, 31 Flinders St, Melbourne
