The Shape of Time: a weekend for spooning

 

Bringing together 13 spoon carvers from across lutruwita/Tasmania, The Shape of Time and the Humble Spoon celebrates the simple act of making – and the many possibilities held within an everyday object.

The exhibition features makers with remarkably diverse practices and approaches, from dedicated spoon carvers to painters, sculptors, architects, furniture makers, musicians and more. What connects them is a shared impulse to work with their hands, carve and make.

A series of spooncarving workshops will run across two weekends during the exhibition, offering the opportunity to experience and learn firsthand. Workshops will be led by Carol Russell, Andrew Evans, Jon Grant, David Rauenbusch, Matt Holden, Stuart Williams, Matthew Simms, Rachel Bremner, Wild Roots, Carve Against the Machine, Dayna Trevaskis and Deborah Brearley.

The workshops cater to everyone from beginners to experienced makers, with the option to take part in multiple sessions and learn different techniques and approaches from each workshop leader.

The exhibition and workshops take place 3–11 October, 2026 at Rosny Park, 22 Rosny Hill Rd, Rosny Park,Tasmania.
