Ross Annels is no stranger to the woodworking community. He’s an expert maker with a serious background in research. Ross combines fine woodworking with an art practice that extends into sculpture, sound technologies, printmaking – and seeking out and deeper and tangible connections with place. He has made furniture and artworks for innumerable public and private spaces.

Ross has a CV of awards and achievements that’s varied and surprising enough to enjoy at length with a cup of tea! What’s apparent is his interest in community involvement, ranging from club memberships, event and exhibition participation, through to collaborations and board memberships.

Teaching has been a constant part of his life, locally and overseas. The latest news is that, after a short hiatus, Ross Annels has recommenced his own wood school after relocating from the Sunshine Coast to Central Victoria.

The new school is named after a local ‘hero’. Mount Egerton is the town in Wadawurrung country where Captain Moonlite began his outlaw career. Moonlite Studios will offer a range of short and ongoing workshops and classes for new and more experienced woodworkers.

Ross Annels has also been working with SkillBuild training who will offer accreditation through the VET system. ‘Serious Furniture Making Training Without Leaving Your Life Behind’ is a Certificate II course in cabinetmaking and timber technology. In six week-long intensives, it covers hand tool and machinery use, design and making techniques, and looks at the operational and professional realities of a potential new career.
