I constructed a roll top desk for my Year 12 Industrial Technology Timber and Furnishing class in 2015. It will be the focal point of the home office, as well as being attractive and well-crafted as it displays its panel sides and rolled top section. This project was constructed after admiring an old-styled roll top desk in my grandparents’ home for many years; I have incorporated its unique style of appearance into my own design.
My roll top desk was constructed using various construction methods which included using slabs of Mackay cedar, domino jointer, biscuiting jointing, routing, tambour construction, dovetailing and finger jointing, panelling, sanding, thicknessing and jointing, lathe turning (pen making), and polyurethane spray finish.
