Permantly cancelled: Maleny Expo will no longer take place
5 June, 2025: Barung Landcare, organisers of the Maleny Wood Expo have just announced that they will no longer host the Maleny Wood Expo. In effect the Expo is permanently cancelled. In a social post Barung advised:
"We understand this will be disappointing and have an impact on many of you in our woodworking and broader community. The decision is a result of Barung Landcare’s current lack of capacity to provide the financial and human resources demanded by such a large event and the risk associated with adverse weather events. We look forward to planning smaller, environment focused events in future.
"The Committee expresses sincere gratitude to our Maleny Wood Expo community of supporters. We value the relationships we formed with volunteers, exhibitors, artisans and craftspeople, stallholders, sponsors, speakers, musicians, organisers and our management staff. You all helped us create a truly unique event which drew attendees from across Australia to the Sunshine Coast and Blackall Range . We particularly thank the Bayside Woodworkers and Crafters Guild and the Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild who worked tirelessly for the Wood Expo, sharing their skills with thousands. We thank our attendees and the broader community for your support.
Barung Landcare is also extremely grateful for the years of ongoing support from the Sunshine Coast Council to the Maleny Wood Expo and Sunshine Coast Wootha Prize. Through the Expo, our members, staff, volunteers, stakeholders and exhibitors have had significant social, economic and cultural impact on our community. If any other group or collective wishes to take ownership of the Maleny Wood Expo to continue this work, please contact the President, Barbara Kelly, via info@malenywoodexpo.com
The Expo was founded in 1996 with community based values that also promoted the sustainable use of wood.
