Every year New Zealand’s Centre for Fine Woodworking showcases the work of full time and part time students in an end of year exhibition.
In 2013 this ran from early Dec to mid-January at Refinery Artspace in Nelson. ‘This is always very popular event’, said Helen Gerry, who handles the school's admin and enrolments, 'as we find that people happily come and view furniture exhibitions without fear of feeling too anxious about visiting a gallery. We love to see them touch the work and then quickly withdraw their hand as if they shouldn’t touch it. Isn't that a natural instinct when looking at a beautiful piece of furniture?’
Last year the school introduced a range of weekend workshops that proved a great attraction. Geared towards introducing absolute beginners to woodworking, they included: Taste of Woodwork, Slot-together Plywood Furniture, Upcycling, and Introduction to Spoon Carving.
