‘Wood shows’ seem fewer and further between nowadays, however Melbournites have an opportunity to enter the world of woodworking via a Hand Tool Event on the weekend of October 14 and 15. On those days, the Melbourne Guild of Fine Woodworking will open its doors to the public from 10am–4pm for a feast of activities, demonstrations and workshops. See the schedule here.

..and there will be retail therapy opportunities from the likes of Lie Nielsen, Carbatec, Japanese Tools Australia, Henry Eckert Toolworks, HNT Gordon, Tetsu (Japanse antique tools), Hand Tool Preservation Association of Australia (HTPAA) and Vesper Tools. There will also be exotic salvaged timbers for sale, a student exhibition, giveaways, a raffle, sausage sizzle and more.

In 2023, the event’s international star guest is Matt Kenney who will give a series of workshops. Learn more here.

Entry is free, and the event takes place at 14 Cottage Street, Blackburn, Victoria.
