It's our pleasure to announce the judging team for Wood Review's 2016 Student Awards!

Stuart Faulkner, headshot

Stuart Faulkner is Director and lead tutor of Heartwood Creative Woodworking, based in Marrickville, Sydney. Up until 2010 Stuart was Head Teacher of Furniture and Product Design at Lidcombe TAFE, whereupon he became fulltime Director of Sturt School For Wood in Mittagong, NSW. Stuart is a furniture designer/maker with a background in illustration and design who is committed to teaching others techniques of woodworking and the principles of design and construction.

Laura McCusker headshot

Laura McCusker was profiled by Bern Chandley in issue 92 of the magazine and appeared on the cover of that issue. She is an acclaimed furniture designer/maker with over 20 years experience making limited production and custom made work. A graduate of Sturt School For Wood, Laura established her business in Sydney and then relocated with her family to Hobart, Tasmania 12 years ago. On her website she says ‘I design objects that are appealing on different levels; pieces that people will enjoy relating to and using. They need to be beautiful, useful, and perform the task for which they were designed, well. Not just for this season or for this decade; but indefinitely.’

Our judges believe in the next generation of woodworkers and look forward to their involvement in Australia's only national competition and online viewing platform for secondary school woodworkers.
