It’s Showtime

The 2014 wood show season is well and truly on with the Brisbane Timber & Working With Wood Show about to kick the year off, May 16–18.

Head to the RNA Showground, Bowen Hills to get your purchasing fix of all the timber, tools, machinery, equipment and products you really do need to do the best woodwork you’re capable of. And where else can you find under the one roof so many retailers who specialise in just that?

But more than that, there are product launches, innumerable demonstrations and a host of interesting presenters to watch, listen and learn from.

Here’s a round-up:

Steve Hay, TV Woodworking Masterclass presenter, and AWR online author, will teach furniture and boxmaking skills, and no doubt tell a few stories as well…

Theo Haralampou, woodturner and raconteur, back from participating in a collaborative event in China is ready to demonstrate a range of fun items to make, and will also reveal his new Xylobowl Tongue Drums.

Evan Dunstone, fine furniture maker and AWR Boxmaker 2014 competition judge will demonstrate chairmaking with the aid of the new Alpha Chair kit he is producing. Don’t bother asking him who won the competition though, it’s top secret till our June issue comes out!

Instead of their familiar retail space Carba-Tec will host non-stop demonstrations of carving, joinery, turning, finishing, and router jig usage on their stand. In addition Carba-Tec will also host Kidspace, a woodwork learning area for kids that is sure to be a hit.

See fine tools made by Terry Gordon and Colen Clenton, and learn how to use them. Demos on their stand include making a tapered sliding dovetail joint using a dado and side rebate planes, as well as making mouldings with hollow and round planes.

Show newcomer Don Willsher will demonstrate matchwork with, you guessed it, matches. An absorbing craft for the space and equipment challenged.

Stan Ceglinski, Timber Show stalwart, will once again conduct the Great Saw Race, demonstrate bush skills, and sing the odd bluesey tune.

Do you need help restoring or finishing your furniture and woodwork. David Foster will present workshops on this theme three times a day.

Big news! Australian-owned Arbortech will launch their new tool, the latest in their innovative range and top secret until the big reveal.

Plus machinery, power tools, hardware and fittings, books, magazines and more…

Okay now here’s the best bit: we have four free passes to give away — but be very quick! Email: competitions@woodreview.com.au with your name and address and the reason why you need to get to the TWWS in Brisbane this year. See here for terms and conditions.
