Invitation to attend Krimper exhibition panel discussion

Curated by Kirsty Grant, the exhibition 'Schulim Krimper: mid-century artist and master craftsman', is currently on show at Bayside Gallery, Brighton, Victoria. The exhibition presents a range of Krimper’s furniture from the 1940s to the 60s, including many pieces from private collections which have never been shown in public.
In addition, on 16 August, from 3pm to 4pm, the gallery will present a related panel discussion for National Science Week that focuses on 'the science of timber'.
Experts will discuss the production, ageing and conservation of timber and its unique properties in terms of carpentry and furniture design. Panellists include:
- Damien Wright is a well known Melbourne furniture designer maker who was profiled in Australian Wood Review #97. His work is in the permanent collection of the National Gallery Canberra, Powerhouse Museum and National Gallery Victoria. Damien is represented by Gallery Sally Dan-Cuthbert in Sydney. Wright Studios is located in Northcote, Victoria.
- Dr Johannes Fehrmann, Research Fellow, Department of Infrastructure Engineering, University of Melbourne. Drawing from experience in wood processing and timber research while working for the Queensland Government, he is dedicated to advancing both innovative engineered wood products and exploring the potential of alternative lignocellulosic raw materials for sustainable building components.
- Dr Antanas Spokevicius, Senior Lecturer in Forest Ecosystem Science, School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences, University of Melbourne.
The exhibition runs until 24 August 2025 at Brighton Town Hall, Bayside Gallery, Cnr Wilson and Carpenter Streets, Brighton, Victoria.
