Students were asked to research design movements and incorporate an influence from at least one in their final design of a timber product. Lewis used Digital Design as his starting point and combined it with his interest in heraldry, using contemporary techniques to create an old-style aesthetic. Lewis combined laser cutting and etching with hand cut rebate joins, loose tenons, dowels and lamellos – finishing his cabinet with a handmade copper handle of his own design. Lewis was also very selective of the grain for his components, particularly with the applied laser cut figures and alignment of the doors.
