At 10:30am, Saturday Sept 5, the public is invited to a special book and magazine launch event with Morris Lake, author of a recently published book on wood species and the man on the cover of the new issue of Wood Review!

The event will take place at Carbatec's Brisbane store, 128 Ingleston Rd, Wakerley.

Morris will give a short talk and lead an open discussion session. Copies of his new book and the new issue of Australian Wood Review will be available for purchase and signing.

About Morris Lake:

In the course of his 37 years as a technical officer with the Department of Primary Industry, Morris had a hand in the creation of some 450 books and publications. He is also a former editor of World of Wood, journal of the International Wood Collector’s Society (IWCS) of which he is a longstanding member. Morris Lake is profiled in the September issue #88 of Australian Wood Review.

‘Every piece of wood you pick up tells its own story’, says Morris. ‘Our rainforests contain most of our ancient trees species – some of which have grown on the Australian continent for 240 million years’, says Morris in the introduction to the book. As ‘cradles of diversity’, he feels rainforests must be preserved as they are essential for sustainability of all forms of life.

Knowing more about trees and wood is important for environmental reasons, however Morris also points out that improving systems of wood identification can also help to wage war on the increased levels of deforestation that are currently taking place worldwide.

Note: This event will take place concurrently on September 5 with an in-store demonstration event from 9am – 12 noon with wood sculptor Gary Field at Carbatec’s Brisbane store.
