For this year’s Australian Wooden Boat Festival, held in Hobart in February, the organisers called on the last working bullocky team in Tasmania, led by Brian Fish to transport a log to the shipwrights’ village at the festival site. As part of The Big Log Project, the tree would be used to demonstrate traditional shipbuilding skills.
This video presents that journey and in so doing, recalls the early days of the timber industry in Tasmania, how trees were felled, transported by water and by bullock teams to sawmills.
The film was made by Joe Shemesh, Storm Front Film. The next Australian Wooden boat Festival takes place in 2017. More information is here.
Below this is the Wood Review TV video, made at the 2015 event in February and published on February 11.
