Made from Tasmanian myrtle, apricot, gum, a variety of Australian veneers, Australian ply, glass, stones, opal and casters
750mm x 850mm x 800mm high
Made during term 2 and 3 in 2014 by a Year 11 student undertaking Year 12 Product Design & Technology – Wood.
The aim was to make a work of art from Tasmanian myrtle, which showcased Australia. Its purpose is to hold blankets in our lounge room. The curves are free form like natural streams, and each piece had to be cut precisely at many different angles. They have been included to create a unique shape and allow for a small coffee table to be placed in front. The grain in the top of the lid was carefully chosen for its beauty. The platypi are carved from an apricot tree, the log is gum, the leaves in the pond are made from veneers for longevity and the pond contains a piece of Australia’s national gem stone from my grandfather’s opal mine.
